  1. Rachel K says:

We’ve watched the last 30 minutes or so of Episode II with Billy a few times–the factory set piece onward–and that part’s actually pretty good (odious C3PO punning and kung fu Yoda notwithstanding). The factory set piece and the Count Dooku lightsaber fight are just solid meat and potatoes action sequences, but the arena fight actually feels like Star Wars. It’s a pastiche of a genuine pop culture thing instead of itself (Gladiator . . . IIIIIIIIIN SPAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!), the characters have to win through wits and cleverness because they’re unarmed, and Padme actually gets to be intrepid and resourceful and generally act like a Star Wars heroine. I could pretty easily imagine Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie in that exact same situation.

Rachel, there’s no shame in RotJ being your favorite as a kid. It was mine, too. My favorite things about the movies were aliens and lightsabers, so as far as I was concerned, the entire trilogy was just “Jabba’s palace and a bunch of other stuff.”

Also, can I put in a formal request for a good old-fashioned Kesra “Yayyyy, Bochutta! Yayyyyy!” on some future podcast? I kept waiting for you to do Kesra cheerleader voice when you were discussing it!
