A note about the racist depiction of Anita Sarkeesian, she’s not actually Jewish at all, her background is Armenian. Just an extra layer of weird to mention in the layered onion of misogynistic racism that is #gamergate. It might be a weird bone to pick, that their racism is wrong, but I am pedantic like that, related: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wDqmdRl4yk

It’s crazy turtles all the way down!

Lovely to hear your take on GamerGate. Have you all seen the fabulous “Derailing for Dummies”? Here’s one of the most relevant sections:

Leeman your discussion of the insular nature of these communities is pretty spot on to critiques of American “Traditional Evangelicals”.

  4. Rachel Kolar says:

Last week, with the Gospel reading about the two greatest commandments, the deacon made a really interesting point in his homily–that when conservatism is taken to the point of heresy, it focuses solely on loving God to the exclusion of loving our neighbor (Pharisaism), and when progressivism is taken to the point of heresy, it focuses solely on loving our neighbor to the exclusion of loving God (secular humanism). The end of this podcast made me think of that.

This is so not spam Kessler!!!

This episode was the straw that tipped the camel’s scales and made me get Shaun of the Dead. I have never seen it.

I still haven’t. But I’m one step closer.

When Rachel said this whole thing was caused by fear, she hit the nail right on the head!
Have you two ever seen Linkara’s review of Frank Miller’s Holy Terror? I’m reminded of that. Towards the end of the second of the three videos he uploaded, he gives a speech that ends with, “And the grand message of Frank Miller’s Holy Terror is: Be afraid. Be terrified. And let’s give in to that fear. And embrace every dark, sick and inhuman part of our souls as a result, and do everything to them that they will do to us.”

    • I’m not familiar with that. But then I try to stay as far away as possible from anything remotely connected to Frank Miller. Sounds like that review and I would be very much on the same page. Thanks for the comment!

You’re welcome! Whenever I see or hear rants about “Fake Geek Girls,” the first story that comes to my mind is the original Dracula novel. I keep thinking, “Are they talking about geeky women or Dracula’s brides?

“There was something about them that made me uneasy, some longing and at the same time some deadly fear. I felt in my heart a wicked, burning desire that they would kiss me with those red lips. …There was a deliberate voluptuousness which was thrilling and repulsive…”

Jonathan Harker, pages 48 & 49 of Dracula.
