After my kidney stone battle last New Year’s gave me a new lease on life I decided the one thing I wanted to do with my brief time on Earth was play and write about board games and I managed to accomplish both.
I had regular standing game night with two of my dad friends as well as a neighbor who frequently stopped by to try out games so there were a lot of opportunities to fling dice, draw cards, and enjoy time with friends.
Of all the games this year, I think Vantage proved the surprise star hit. It’s a bonkers game and I have squeezed about as much juice out of it as I feel like I need but man alive it hit me at just the right time to really give me a great time.
One notable highlight this year was getting to bring friends together twice to play Twilight Imperium, a game where the real victory is finding the time and opportunity to play a whole game.
In 2026 I hope to build off the trend but what I really want is to add more friends to my gaming roster. With the new friendly local game store, I might very well get that opportunity. For now, I’m very grateful to all of you who went on this journey with me. Let me know what games you’re playing or hope to play in the coming year.
